Flash Mob Event Happened Today: Elgin, IL


#somob4good HAPPENED in downtown Elgin, IL at 1:00 PM today. It was awesome. Glad to have been there!!
Elgin, IL, Friday June 4, 2010 #somob4good, organized by Sarah Evans HAPPENED in downtown Elgin, IL at 1:00 PM. It was reported by Evans to be a worldwide Social Media event in 15 cities, originating in Elgin IL and including Brussels and Honolulu. Social Mob 4 Good (#somob4good), a world wide flash mob to raise awareness for social service agencies. The intent of the "mob" is ultimately to raise awareness and the profile of each city's local service agencies. Many agencies turned up including the YWCA www.ywcaelgin.org, The Community Crisis Center www.crisiscenter.org, The United Way of Elgin www.liveunited.org, The Life Center www.thinkimpregnant.com and at least two political candidates. Grove Street at the court b/t Mad Maggie's/Elgin Symphony Orchestra/Barnett Law Firm Meeting Time: 12:50 pm - show up near location Flash Mob Time: PRECISELY at 1:00 pm **************************** Activity: -Umbrella (the brighter the better) -White T-Shirt with #somob4good written on it (or any t-shirt of your choice) -Phone or portable music device w speakers (If possible) -Download Rihanna's "Umbrella" (If possible) -Cameras, etc. to document your mob activity - MOST IMPORTANT: We want you to show up! Think of it like an improv act. Everyone's going to be hanging around in their t's chatting, socializing, etc. Everyone should have their portable music device ready to play precisely at 1p. Watch for the flashmob leaders to begin congregating and twirling umbrellas (rain, sun, shine, snow, whatever). As soon as they do start opening and twirling YOUR umbrellas as well and join them in a "mob" formation. After the event, disperse and head to EPH for a celebration. Best, Sarah
